Desert Rock Power Plant Hearings Scheduled As you may already know, Sithe Global and Diné Power Authority want to build a 1,500 megawatt coal plant near Burnham, NM. Hearings on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Proposed Desert Rock Power Plant are scheduled and the public comment period is open until August 20th. It’s important that the BIA hear from as many people as possible who oppose the plant. A sample comment to send in: DATE Dear Coordinator Yazzie: I oppose the “Desert Rock Energy Project” proposed for San Juan County, New Mexico, on the Navajo Nation. I am submitting this as my comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the Project, the comment period being open through August 20, 2007. While it is clear that new methods of economic development and “fuel diversity” are needed for the Navajo Nation, I do not support the construction and operation of this proposed coal-fired power plant and its related facilities. I strongly urge the BIA and its coordinating agencies to withdraw the Desert Rock Energy Project proposal. Sincerely, NAME Click here to check out a flier produced by Dooda (No) Desert Rock Mail comments on the DEIS to: Harilene Yazzie, Regional NEPA Coordinator, Desert Rock Energy Project EIS, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Regional Office, P.O.
