Our concert in Salt Lake City benefited two Skull Valley Goshute groups, Ohngo Gaudadeh Devia Awareness (OGDA) and the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), both of which are fighting against a proposed nuclear waste dump on the reservation. In 1997, tribal leaders signed an agreement with Private Fuel Storage, an eight company, limited-liability consortium to store nuclear waste aboveground on the reservation for forty years with the possibility of a forty-year extension. Tribal members in opposition to this decision, the state of Utah, and other activist groups are still fighting the proposed nuclear waste dump. This concert just preceded the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s January 2005 meeting to decide whether or not to issue a license for the waste storage.
