Honor the Earth: Impacted Nations: a traveling art show: Artists: LisaNa M. Macias Red Bear

LisaNa Red Bear, Apache/Mexica/Andalusian
As a first generation college graduate, Ms. Red Bear draws upon intergenerational familial experiences of diaspora and the struggle to transcend racism, poverty, and oppression in the pursuit of self-determination. “Because of this displacement,” Ms. Red Bear says, “I can offer no ‘proof' of my ethnicity. I have only oral testimony, my work, and life to prove my commitment to self-determination and human rights of Indigenous peoples and communities. I speak of this uprooted reality through my work and create vibrant and distinct images reflecting spiritual, political, psychological, and cultural understandings.” Ms. Red Bear received an Arts and Humanities Fellowship and was named an Arts and Humanities Scholar at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2002.
