Quick-To-See Smith, Flathead Salish
Ms. Smith is an accomplished painter and printmaker who exhibits, curates Native exhibitions, and lectures internationally, most recently at universities in Beijing and Shanghai. An activist/spokesperson for contemporary American Indian art, she founded two Native American coops--Grey Canyon Artists in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Coup Marks Flathead Reservation in Montana. Ms. Smith holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico and honorary doctorates from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Arts, and the Massachusetts College of Art. Ms. Smith was awarded the College Art Association Women’s Award in 2002 and the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2005. |
