Hiko'ula Hanapi
Mr. Hanapi was born in 1955 in Honolulu , Hawai'i and studied in the Studio Program at the Honolulu Academy of Arts from 1975 to 1976. His mentors included James Koga (lithography) and Louis Pohl (drawing). He also studied with Carilyn Cardenas (egg tempera painting) at the University of Nevada and apprenticed with Reno and James Lowe (photography) in Honolulu , Hawai'i . Mr. Hanapi uses a variety of media but prefers drawing above all. His works focus on Hawaiian values, traditional stories and contemporary issues in Hawai'i . He currently lives on the Big Island of Hawai'i in South Kohala.
