Bunky Echo-Hawk, Pawnee/Yakama
Born on the Yakama Reservation in Toppenish , Washington , Mr. Echo-Hawk was raised on the Pawnee Reservation in Oklahoma . He became an initiate at the age of four into the Iruska Society, an age-old warrior society. His father is a warrior lawyer for Native American rights in Colorado . These experiences gave Mr. Echo-Hawk an acute understanding of his culture, the non-Indian world, and the pursuit of justice that arises when the two collide. From this, he felt inspired to commit his life to the arts. Prior to attending the Institute of American Indian Arts , Mr. Echo-Hawk was an illustrator for the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. He is a published poet and playwright. He began painting in 1992 and exhibits regionally and internationally.
